Are You Using Spreadsheets?

At one point in my career, I was actually a spreadsheet guru, a Microsoft beta tester, and an Excel programmer who created literally hundreds of Excel programs.  I still use spreadsheets every day, but have throttled back to the role of user rather than developer, and have shifted to Google Sheets.  It’s free and has all the features and functions I need.

Don’t misunderstand.  Spreadsheets are truly serious business tools.  Just because Google Sheets is free if you have a Gmail account, it is a POWERFUL way to do everything from a place to create lists and simple “databases”, to complex calculations and macro-driven programs. For the majority of people outside the corporate world, if they use spreadsheets, they only use a small percentage of the capabilities.

I’ve had the Spreadsheet Daddy site bookmarked for several years, and found that it is up to date, and includes hints, tips, examples, templates, and checklists for most of the daily functions in Excel or Sheets would do.

How I Use Spreadsheets in My Daily Routine

  • Send log – I track all the emails that i send every day.  This helps me to understand the safelists where I am sending Solo, Credit Mail, and Supersolo ads, with the
    • date,
    • safelist site,
    • number of recipients I send to,
    • the project,
    • credit/solo/Supersolo, and
    • subject line.
I also use this to track the broadcasts of my newsletter on my autoresponders.

I “filter” by many factors, but one function I use is a sum of emails sent per day.  I know that I will have ~400,000 emails per day on the BigDogs CHIPs (takes 30 minutes), and about 21,000 on broadcasts, and then I “fill out” the rest of my traffic using Supersolos until I exceed 1-2 million.

Other filters I use is to show growth (or not) of some sites since beginning of year.  For example, I love to see the phenomenal growth month after month for Herculist (absolutely worth the $49 for Lifetime Gold)

I can filter by PROJECT to see how many emails I have sent on a particular project like BigDogs, Worldprofit, Automatic Builder, Nexus Rewards, etc.  I then compare these to the TRACKER Click statistics for the URLs I used.

  • Quick reference and sites tab.  I have a tab in the same spreadsheet for “lists” of sites like the BigDogs CHIPs, Worldprofit safelists, Supersolos sites/members  I grab these lists to copy/.paste into my log sheet so I don’t miss any of them.
  • Referrals Count Tracking – a good point-in-time look at where I have referrals, how many, and member level.
  • Referrals Tracking – this records the name/email of downlines for certain projects where understanding rankings and sales are important.
  • Affiliate IDs.  This is a filtered database for each of my safelist and exchange affiliate sites.  This makes it so easy to look up affiliate IDs, and promotional tools URLs for the literally thousands of sites I have joined over the last 12 years. Great reference for filling out Downline Builders. For each, I record
    • project name
    • site name and URL
    • login and password
    • affiliate URL
    • Tracker URL
    • Capture page URL
    • Banner, Button, Login Ad URL
  • Capitalization Tool – Sheets has a ChangeCase Extension to help manage setting capitalization of text. Pick a cell and paste in your text string.  The extension allows one-click operation that changes the text to
    • All Upper case
    • All Lower case
    • First Letter capitals
    • Invert case
    • Sentence case
    • Title case
  • Data Parser/Sorter – Spreadsheets are excellent tools for taking a list copied from a website, filtering, sorting, re-ordering, deleting. See my Youtube channels for some techniques
    • For example, when I use Referral Frenzy, I copy today’s My Mailings table, and paste it into a blank sheet.  I “normalize” the data,
      • remove all formatting and URLs,
      • delete unwanted columns,
      • delete 0 sends
      • sort, then
      • paste into my Send Log sheet.
    • This whole operation takes literally 2 minutes, as opposed to 20 minutes to do manually.  Helps me avoid logging into sites I’ve already sent to from Referral Frenzy.

Amazon Buys

Yes, I have been an Amazon affiliate for 20 years, but don’t put too much effort to promoting it.  I can tell you that as a CONSUMER, I saved TONS, not only with PRIME, but with the notices I’ve seen on the top Amazon featured sales when my kids were in college, grad school, and med school.  Here are some of today’s highlights.
