Weird Hidden Characters with ChatGPT

I frequently use AI to rewrite and recycle some of my old ad copy.  Hey, change it up, make it fresh.

I generated the new ad copy, pasted it into my “signature” template that I use for all my HTML formatted ads, and saved it into each HTML field in Lighting Autofill (my automation software) and JitBit Autotext (keyboard shortcut software).  I pasted the plain text into the text fields in Lightning Autotext and Jitbit, then saved the profiles.

Whenever I would submit an HTML ad using that ad copy, the solo or credit mail submission would fail with a 500 error (the safelist could not handle whatever you just did, so it croaked).  I was getting the same result when submitting the text version of the ad copy.  When I looked at it, the ad copy and HTML code LOOKED fine.

I did a Google search for a text cleaner, and set it up to remove only any non-ASCII characters, then tested it by pasting the “cleaned” ad copy into a solo ad.  IT WORKED!

I’ve seen it before that ChatGPT likes to use “graphic bullets” like stars or rocket ships, but I remove them because I know safelists DO NOT USUALLY LIKE THEM.   I also find these characters in emails by Jeff Aman and Frank Salinas, so beware, if you are duplicating their ad copy.

Apparently, there were OTHER hidden, or non-display characters inserted too.  I did the same cleaning procedure with the HTML AI generated code, and it also worked.

TIP:  If experiencing 500 errors after YOU submit an ad, try this cleaning procedure.  There are many other reasons for 500 errors, but if the timing is right, try cleaning your ad copy
